Brad Schwertz enlisted in the US Army when he was 22 years old.  He initially planned on enlisting when he was 20 years old but wanted to say with his girlfriend who was going through a complicated pregnancy at the time.  Having always wanted to join the Army, Brad had to put that on hold as he helped take care of his new daughter Faith. 

Brad joined the Army because he wanted to provide a better life for his daughter so she would not have to struggle.  He enlisted to become a generator mechanic.  Brad’s relationship with his girlfriend didn’t last but his daughter has medical coverage and Brad continues to provide for her back in the states.  Brad admits that it has not been easy being far away from his daughter.  He usually only sees her twice a year for 2 weeks at a time but he continues to work hard.  Brad plans on going back to school when he is out of the Army and becoming a wind generator mechanic and spending time with his daughter.
